WELCOME, KINDRED SPIRIT

A Blue Moon is what we call the rare second Full Moon in a single month, not because of its colour, but because of its rarity. Fun Fact - the last Blue Full Moon was in August 2024.

This month’s Blue Moon rises as May reaches its fullness, a second blooming, a second wave of becoming. It carries a different kind of attention. A moment that asks us to pause and notice what might otherwise pass by.

SEASONAL MUSINGS

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT A BLUE MOON

It doesn’t replace the first, it expands the story.

Where the Flower Moon spoke of opening and blooming, this Blue Moon is about what comes after that initial rise. This can be a time of noticing what has doubled, deepened, or continued growing beneath the surface.

This is a good moment for:

  • noticing what has grown beyond your original expectations

  • free-flow journaling about what is on your mind - don’t think, just let it flow out

  • returning to something you thought was already “complete”

  • clearing space and organizing what feels full or overflowing

  • observing the moon in its fullness - the best time to view is dusk on May 30th

  • creating Moon Water - scroll to the bottom of newsletter for how-to

WHAT IS IN SEASON

DANDELIONS - The Sun, Moon & Stars of Early Summer

We are heading into peak dandelion harvesting season, one of the most generous and beneficial plants growing all around us. Useful from root to flower, dandelions have long been valued in both herbal traditions and folk practices for their nourishment, and resilience.

If you plan to harvest stems for weaving, look for the tallest ones you can find. They’re often growing in shaded areas or places where they’ve had to stretch toward the sunlight - along fences, beneath taller plants, or tucked into sidewalk cracks. Those longer stems are perfect for weaving.

Wait until the flowers have fully gone to seed before harvesting. Once plucked, gather them into small bundles, tie them lightly with string, and hang them upside down to dry. When fully dried, store them away until you’re ready to weave. Humble dandelion stems create the most delicate little baskets, trays, and tiny woven treasures.

Spiritually, dandelions are often associated with resilience, wishes, transformation, and hope. They are said to represent the sun, moon, and stars through each stage of their life cycle. The bright yellow flower like the sun, the puffball seed head like the moon, and the drifting seeds scattered like stars across the sky. They remind us of cycles, change, and the beauty of letting things move where they are meant to go.

Herbally, dandelions have been used for generations to support digestion, liver health, nourishment, and overall vitality - I drink dandelion tea daily! Every part of the plant has a purpose, making them one of the most giving plants of the season.

UNDER THE FULL MOON

A BLUE MOON PRACTICE

Create Moon Water, a simple, subtle way to harness the energy of the Blue Moon.

Set out a jar, pitcher, bottle, or any vessel that can hold water. Leave it outside beneath the Full Moon - May 30th is ideal - and allow the water to absorb the moon’s energy overnight. Even if the moon isn’t visible, its presence is still there.

Moon water has long been used as a ritual tool for reflection, intuition, clarity, and intention setting. The Full Moon is often associated with fullness, illumination, abundance, and heightened energy, making this a beautiful practice for slowing down and reconnecting with yourself and the season you’re in. The act itself is simple, but meaningful. A reminder to pause, notice, and be present.

In the days that follow, use the water to make tea, add it to a bath, water your plants, cleanse your space, or drink it slowly and intentionally, inviting in the moon’s abundant energy. As you do, take a moment to notice what already feels full in your life.

What is abundant?
What is ready to be nourished?

Moon water is less about magick in the dramatic sense, and more about creating a small moment of connection with yourself, with nature, and with the rhythms that are always around us. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply pause long enough to notice.
